This design is inspired by Merino Rams, a breed of domestic sheep prized for their fine wool, which is considered some of the highest quality wool available. Mount Barker, located in Western Australia, is home to one of the largest Merino sheep populations in the world.
Merino sheep were introduced to Australia by British settlers in the late 18th century and were originally brought over to provide food and clothing for the colony, but it soon became apparent that their wool was of exceptional quality.
Merino wool from Mount Barker is particularly sought after due to the region's unique climate and soil conditions. The cold, wet winters and dry summers of the area produce a high-quality wool that is strong, soft, and warm.
In 2020, Mount Barker received international attention when the film "Rams", directed by Jeremy Sims, showcased the town and surrounding region's picturesque landscapes and sheep farming industry.
